Container Temperature Control Unit™

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ: What is a station?
BSI: We call the unit (CTCU) controlling 1 to 5 positions or containers a station.

FAQ: What is a position?
BSI: The position is a place to hook up a container or trailer, or rail car.

FAQ: What is the difference between a Stand Alone and a Networked system?
BSI: The Stand Alone system has fewer features than the Networked system. A Stand Alone station is used by one person and can control up to 5 containers. It has a keypad and display for input and a small amount of built-in memory but limited data storage (up to a week’s worth). A PC is required if data is to be downloaded. The Stand Alone is suitable for special situations such as in a plant or where third party billing is not needed. It is not meant to be networked.

The Networked system has a Supervisory Computer which can control up to 30 stations. Multiple users can view all stations and positions. It is server-based with virtually unlimited storage. It can be linked to 150 containers a corporate network, Internet, phones, faxes… It allows for reporting, storage email and communication options. The cost of the Supervisory Computer is in the high four figures, however, the individual stations are less expensive than the stand-alone units. If there is a possibility of adding more stations in the future, and reporting and communications are an important part of your business the Networked system is the better choice.

FAQ: Can the Stand Alone be upgraded later to a Networked version?
BSI: To date we have not upgraded any to the networked system. Considering that the StandAlone station costs more, plus add upgrading costs; this would fast approach half the cost of the initial supervisory computer system.

FAQ: If I want a networked system, what other information will be needed?
BSI: We need to know the computer operating system you desire, such as Linux, Theos, or if it doesn’t matter.
Do you want a billing feature for containers heated?
If Yes to billing, do you want it tied into your Accounts Receivable?
Do you need Dial-up for remote support?
Do you want Email with that?
Do you want it tied to a corporate network?

FAQ: If we need 20 positions networked, would the price be different if it is 4 stations with 5 positions, or 5 stations with 4 positions, or 10 with 2?
BSI: We charge by the position, so the price would be the same no matter what the configuration (although the installation cost will increase with the number of stations). The geometry or layout of your facility would determine the choice between the three options.
